Through a tutoring and mentorship program, TMU is helping high school students from the Regent Park community find academic and personal success.
Launched in 2023, P2E x TMU Community Tutoring is a collaboration between the Pathways to Education program at Regent Park Community Health Centre and TMU’s Student Life and Learning Support unit. The program offers high school students a variety of support services including firsthand experiences, like campus tours and mentorship.
In 2023-24, four TMU undergraduate students, including one who came through the Pathways to Education program himself, helped 90 students in grades nine through 12 succeed in their classes while also preparing them for their future beyond high school.
With 60 participants starting at TMU as first-year students in 2024, the program has emerged as a significant resource, helping high school students identify career goals and the steps needed to achieve them, including knowing what post-secondary education looks like.
