Toronto Metropolitan University is honoured to have recently welcomed the following leaders in pivotal areas of the institution.
They include: Dr. Teresa M. Chan, dean, School of Medicine and vice-president, Medical Affairs; Cynthia Holmes, dean of the Ted Rogers School of Management and Wendy Lawrence, general counsel, secretary of the Board of Governors, and chief privacy officer.

Dr. Teresa M. Chan

In her two inaugural roles, Dr. Teresa M. Chan provides strategic, academic and operational leadership to advance the vision, mission, design and implementation of the university’s new school of medicine.
She champions the school’s mandate to offer a new approach to medical education in Ontario, fostering academic excellence, commitment to equity and community inclusion, and innovation to address the changing needs for health-care delivery and practice.
Chan has been a practising emergency physician at Hamilton Health Sciences since 2013. Her clinical work involves helping patients navigate societal and systemic challenges that prevent them from being seen as a whole person, and facilitating their access to care to maintain their dignity.
Cynthia Holmes
Dean, Ted Rogers School of Management
A seasoned academic leader, Cynthia Holmes has been with the university’s business school since 2010. She is responsible for all aspects of the school’s operation, including strategy, policy development, implementation and management.
As the former associate dean, faculty and academic, Holmes oversaw academic issues for more than 12,000 undergraduate business school students. She is also the founding chair of the real estate management program and teaches real estate and housing market courses at the undergraduate and master’s level. Her research focus is real estate finance and housing economics.
She is committed to ensuring that students have a rich university experience through excellent curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.
Wendy Lawrence

In this multifaceted role, Wendy Lawrence is the primary legal advisor to TMU’s leadership and the Board of Trustees, providing guidance on a range of legal, governance and risk matters.
Her role also includes the development of operational practices and procedures while providing advice on the variety of legal issues that face the university including contracts, real estate and construction, information and privacy, labour and employment, human rights and litigation.
Lawrence has broad legal experience on matters ranging from contracts, corporate/commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, privacy law, and administrative law to ensure compliance with laws, informed executive decision-making, and robust risk assessment during a rapidly changing regulatory and social landscape.
