How have you stayed connected to TMU since graduating and how are you currently giving back?
Since graduating from TMU, I have made it a priority to stay connected with the university and give back in meaningful ways. I participate in speaking events to share insights on career paths and industry trends, and I enjoy mentoring students and alumni through one-on-one guidance. I also host coffee chats, provide resume coaching and offer interview tips to help prepare students for the workforce. Staying engaged with TMU allows me to give back to the community that helped shape my own career while helping the next generation succeed.
What motivates you to stay connected and give back?
It’s the desire to support the next generation of students and professionals as they navigate their careers. I remember the guidance, mentorship and opportunities that helped me along the way, and I want to provide that same support to others. It is incredibly rewarding to see students grow, gain confidence and achieve their goals. Staying connected also allows me to continue learning from fresh perspectives, build meaningful relationships and contribute to a community that has had a lasting impact on my own professional journey.
Can you share a moment where you really felt your impact on a TMU student or alum?
One moment that really stands out was following a speaking engagement I attended at TMU. Several students and alumni reached out afterward for coffee chats and guidance on resume preparation. I supported them with interview tips and career advice, and it was incredibly rewarding to see one of these connections turn into an opportunity where I was able to hire a TMU alum. Seeing the direct impact of mentoring and sharing my experience reinforced why staying connected and giving back to the TMU community is so meaningful to me.
What do you hope to get out of giving back, and what do you hope others take from it?
By giving back, I hope to provide guidance, support and practical insights that help students and alumni navigate their career paths with confidence. I want to create opportunities for them to learn, grow and succeed in ways that might not have been available to them otherwise. At the same time, I hope they take away a sense of encouragement, clarity and inspiration, and understand the value of building connections and paying it forward in their own careers.
What’s one piece of advice you often share with students or alumni?
It’s the importance of building and nurturing your network without expecting anything in return. Relationships grow when you offer support, share knowledge and show genuine interest in others’ success. Over time, these connections open doors, provide guidance and create opportunities you might never have anticipated. Networking is most powerful when it is authentic and focused on mutual growth rather than immediate gain.
Why would you encourage other alumni to get involved?
I’d say get involved because giving back is a meaningful way to make a difference in someone else’s career journey while also staying connected to the university community. Sharing your experience, insights and guidance helps students and recent graduates navigate challenges, build confidence and explore opportunities. At the same time, alumni benefit from fresh perspectives, strengthened networks and the satisfaction of knowing they played a part in shaping the next generation’s success.
